President Mahama leaves for AU Anniversary‏

President John Dramani Mahama will leave Accra on Thursday to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to take part in activities to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the Organisation of African Unity, now the Africa Union.

A statement signed by Deputy Minister for Information, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the President while in Addis Ababa would take part in a Forum of Heads of State and Governments on the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).


President Mahama on Chinua Achebe's legacy‏

Since the death of Chinua Achebe on 21st March, much has been written about the tremendous impact his work had on the world of contemporary African literature.

Many writers on the continent and in the diaspora, myself included, felt as though we had lost a mentor and literary godfather. But writers were not the only ones who held him in high esteem. In the same way that Mr. Achebe’s books helped foster the talent of countless writers in Africa’s post-colonial era, they also inspired a number of Africa’s current political leaders.


President Mahama receives Kenyan Deputy President‏

President John Dramani Mahama has accepted a request from Kenya to champion their cause for an expansion of Amisom troops at this week's African Union summit, noting that peace and security remain vital to the growth of the continent. 

Kenya's Deputy President, William arap Ruto, in a discussion with President Mahama in Accra on Sunday, said the his country wants the Amisom troops in Somalia expanded.

The security situation in Somalia which continues to threaten Kenya because of the porous border between the two continues is putting pressure on Kenya's security situation. 


President Mahama sees off Governor General of Canada

The visiting Governor General of Canada, Rt. Hon. David Johnston, has left Ghana for Botswana on the second leg of his three-nation African tour.

At the airport to see him off was President John Dramani Mahama. The president presented a copy of his book, My First Coup D'etat: and other true stories from the lost decades of Africa.

Canadian Governor General‏ Visits Ghana

President John Mahama today received the Canadian Governor General, Rt. Hon. David Johnston in the Flagstaff House. The two held discussions behind closed doors before joining a bilateral meeting of the two sides. The two leaders later met the Flagstaff House Press Corps.


President Mahama receives General Gowon and Jeffrey Sachs‏

President John Mahama on Friday held discussions with former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.) and Professor Jeffrey Sachs of the Earth Institute.

General Gowon is in Accra to take part in the meetings of the 12th Ministerial Committee of the Inter-Governmental Action Group Against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA). Accompanying him were official of GIABA and the Director General of Ghana's Financial Intelligence Centre.


Gov’t to introduce certificate in midwifery programme- First Lady

First Lady Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama has announced that government will be introducing a Certificate in Midwifery programme as part of plans to increase the number of midwives in the country.

 

“I am also happy to announce that work is ongoing to introduce the Certificate in Midwifery Training Programme”, Mrs. Mahama stated in an address to launch the 22nd International Day of the Midwife at the Jubilee Park in Wa.


High level security meeting takes place on Friday‏

The country's security chiefs will today hold a high-level meeting to review the security situation and take decisions intended to improve the safety and security of the citizenry. The meeting will take place in the Flagstaff House.

In attendance will be the Chief of Defence Staff and his service commanders, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Director of Immigration and the Chief Fire Officer.


John Mahama celebrated in Ethiopia‏

President John Dramani Mahama was on Wednesday celebrated by leading Public Relations Practitioners from across the African continent. The practitioners who are attending the first-ever All Africa Public Relations Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia congratulated John Mahama for being the first public relations practitioner, and member of Ghana’s chapter of the African Public Relations Association, to ascend to the high office of a Head of State in Africa.

President Mahama in an address read on his behalf by the Minister for Information and Media Relations, Hon Mahama Ayariga, urged Public Relations (PR) practitioners in Africa to rally around the project to  positively re-invent Africa’s image in the world.


President reviews change of military guard at Flagstaff House

President John Dramani Mahama has reviewed a ceremony to handover the guard duties at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House, from the Navy to the Infantry Brigade. The Infantry will be in charge for one month before handing over to the Air Force.

Tuesday's change of guard is the first of such ceremonies open to the public. It was a colourful ceremony at the forecourt of the Flagstaff House, and watched by many including the Chief of Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Commanders.
