Wa residents give Mahama an ecstatic welcome

Thousands of people on Tuesday night poured into the streets of the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, to welcome the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to the region.

Mr. Mahama arrived a day earlier for a four-day tour of the region from Wednesday to Saturday.

He was met on the outskirts of Wa by thousands of motorbike riders and others in vehicles amid joyous singing and dancing, and a drive through the principal streets of Wa. In a Facebook post after his arrival, President Mahama thanked the people of Wa for what he described as a “tumultuous and energizing welcome”.

President Mahama will during the tour, meet with chiefs, opinion leaders, organised groups and leaders of religious bodies. The NDC presidential candidate will also address various communities during his tour of the Upper West Region.

Mr. Mahama is expected to return to Accra on Sunday, ahead of the launch of his party’s manifesto for the 2020 elections. His vice-presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is also on a tour of the Western North Region. She is expected to wrap up her tour on Saturday.
